I changed the oil and filter yesterday on my Newchurch.
The filter was an absolute bas***d to remove.
I broke my chain type filter wrench in the battle to remove it!
Over the years I've changed countless filters but never before have I come up against such resistance!
It was crushed and split by the wrench and was constantly dripping what remained of the oil everywhere, just to help the job along!
It was a total relief when it eventually yielded and came off.
According to the service history the bike had its first 500 mile service at a Triumph dealer 12 months ago, I wonder if oil and filter were changed at that point?
That filter must have been put on by a steroid crazed Gorilla, utter madness!

How many times do we say it, do your own servicing!
    I understand with warranties etc.
I like to be present if I have to take any of my vehicles in for anything, which is just mainly tyres or MOT
If that filter was fitted by a main Triumph dealer they should be held to account, and if they try and blame it on an apprentice,it tells you all you need to know.
Extortionate prices and shite service is all I read about dealerships apart from an odd exception.

For many years now I've used an independent spanner merchant for my servicing after just as many doing it myself. I'm now lazy. Stewart does a great and very thorough job for a good price so I go back every year. May get my first year done at the dealership but we'll see after that - I know where I'll probably go.

    Hi
I live in Bucks, who is Stewart? I do my own servicing but might get someone to do my 12000 Valve clearance check.
    Thanks

Not the best of websites but in a nutshell Stewart is a crusty late fifties mechanic of the old school, with a roll-up constantly on the go or being rolled, has a voice full of gravel and permanently dirty hands. He has a lathe and various other bits of machinery in a proper back street workshop and mends things rather than just replace bits. Oh, and he's based in Sunbury-on-Thames which is not ideal when you live in Bucks but he was recommended to me and I don't mind the trip. Five minutes walk from Sunbury train station so I often go in one day, train home and do the same in reverse the following weekend.

Last year I took my GSX to him for it's annual service and MoT and he decided the rear linkages were a bit stiff so stripped, cleaned and lubed them all. Riding home was a revelation - I was suddenly on a magic carpet. Only cost me a smidge more in labour so he just did it.

If you pop in be warned. He can chat for England!

    Thanks,

Sounds like the guy I use near Heathrow for powder coating, he does a fantastic job and has lots of other stuff going on, proper engineer sort, but he can talk like nobody else on Earth. He's interesting, but you just can't get away, which is awkward as I have to plan for a 2 hour lunchbreak just to drop off or pick up.
