It looks like you may have to venture further afield for your biking nirvana..
There's one out near Borehamwood called A little Spin (highlighted in red) that gets high points.

 

You could try picking a subject to visit.
I started visiting Iron Age hill forts,not because I was particularly interested in them but there's a fair few scatted about and they tend to be off the beaten track.
Abandoned airfields could be an other? Or Norman churches.
Or you could even try Geocashing.
The internet is your oyster

 

Try heading up towatds Ware then take the country roads to Hunsdon where WWII Mosquito squadrons were based. Great back roads out through Much Hadham. Then go via A120 to join A10 for a fast run back into London.

 

Totally agree with Roadrider.
There is a wealth of fantastic places to visit on our beautiful little island.
You've just got to read up on them and choose what interests you.
Have a look on google at what is recommended for tourists in a 100 mile radius of where you are.
If you are up by 6am you'll beat any traffic for a ride inland or to the coast.
Gotta be pro-active mate and live every day as if it's your last. 'Carpe diem'

 

I'm the opposite, I'll head off somewhere then take a left or a right, and continue like that for awhile, you find some interesting roads good and bad then when I get hungry out comes google maps hope I've got a signal

 

luegolover, I get like that and it's when I do the spur of the moment thing early doors. If I planned the night before it's a different thing then

 

I must admit I struggle to know where to go, sometimes get to the bottom of our road and take ages wondering whether to go left or right, then I end up going on the same Route i do every weekend.

Sometimes go to a dealership to have a nosey and most have a cafe or van these days. Perhaps we should post where we going and it will give someone else the motive to head off and meet up. At least it's somewhere new and somewhere to head for.

 

Well, when we get organised we should meet, I'm only in Lichfield, bottom of the A38 and go into the Peak District, not been up that way for years.

 

Another option (and I know that why bother with the same circuit feeling) is join English Heritage and visit some castles and other interesting places. You can pay at the gate but joining gets you free entry and you're more likely to go to get your money's worth. Specialist/independent museums are another set of destinations - like the deHaviland museum near Hatfield. Take a camera and post up some pics to give ideas for our own rides.

 

Tried that but keep losing the coins!! No good at flipping coins with my left hand but don't want to use my right hand as I slow down too much!

I spose if it takes a while to get to the fun zone, it takes the edge off it . I'm on the coast so only have half the options for routes, I often don't know where i'm going till I get there, but I don't trundle all day anymore.

p.s I don't get up early either .

 

If you want pure random locations then use this site - http://www.geomidpoint.com/random/

It will generate random gps points within a radius from your start point. Plug these into a Tomtom and select "winding route" for a completely random ride.

Personally I always go out on Sunday mornings for a breakfast run. I have also loaded all of the cafe's outside city centres into my GPS so I can simply select a café and then again choose winding route to get a great ride and breakfast - what's not to like about that

 

There is always somewhere to go - breakfast is a good start!
Like the historic sites idea.
I'd rather ride the same old route in good weather than be sat on the sofa

 

Why not get your heads together and come up with something along these lines ............ It makes for a good few days out when it suits you.

These are my inspiration for those days I'm not sure where to head to and I get to see places I would never have found otherwise.

 

Out for a run in the warm sunshine today,a wee trip along the Tweed at Cardrona, Peebleshire.I was going to have a spot of welding done at a friends garage a few miles up the road,so I thought I'd take the very long way round to his place ......about 60 or so miles round trip through part of the lovely Border countryside

Oh that was my welding job as mentioned,taking the rack to be added to the pannier frames,as the original design would not allow bolt on to the frames or re-fit the seat.Anyway all sorted now...
