hi all curious as to know if my 2011 speed triple (abs) has a cat in standard exhaust system,I bought a nice underseat exhaust system and its much louder than stock even with baffles and Db killers fitted,I wear ear plugs but I couldn't use bike without these its that loud sounds nuts on overrun (gpr site says road legal) I'm not that convinced but top quality exhaust all the same.

There will be a cat in your system and every other bike since 2004/5/6. The cat is found in the "mid-pipe" section and not in the cans or the supplied link pipe (if any). If the cat has been previously removed from the exhaust (before you owned it?) adding an after market spec exhaust end can would make the bike louder than the makers of the exhaust would have anticipated. As a rule of thumb thou, any after market exhaust will be 20-40% louder than the stockers which is good because the standard exhausts on the triple are weak as f%^k:pensive:

that would explain why bike is loud even when I bought it with standard system, previous mot had an advisory for loud exhaust on certificate. There has been something done to standard system as its suprisingly fruity think cats gone bye bye before I bought bike, never heard another stock exhaust sound like one on bike.

hey, on the upside if the cat has been removed and done properly you've got 6-10bhp more than a stocker!!!!

standard exhaust back on for now and its still fruity sounding I've not heard another if same model to know if my cats been removed or something else been done, reserving judgement until I hear another bike as the rear part of stock system has no signs of any tampering/modding.

Ive not removed one on the triple, but on most other bikes its just as andyc1 said, their just drilled out with a spade bit or sum such. So there wont be any visible difference. Guess what you could do is remove the pipes down to the mid section and slowly/carefully insert a length of wood or plastic and see how far along the mid pipe it will go. If it makes it past the bulge its safe to say theres no cat.
