That is how I was taught to do it too; it worked fine with my Tiger 800 XC.
But I guess, I'll be practicing with the T120 somewhere in the deep, dark woods where only the foxes will enjoy the show.... ;)

When I got my 2008 Bonnie back in 2010 it was centre stand lacking, bought one from Norman Hyde, made life so much easier, when I sold the bike I took it off and got most of my money back!
Alas, often accessories don't always make the bike more value or sale-able.
My 2003 Bonnie I got just last year came with screen, engine bars, pannier rails, K&Q seat rack, alarm & centre stand and still paid less than market value for a bare bike!

It's a common mistake for many bikers to be pulling frantically on the bars/anything at the rear of the bike. I was one of them until a friend showed me how easy it was to just push down on the stand's foot-piece...

Agreed, center stand makes life real easy when cleaning etc. I don't have one on the street twin so I bought a bike jack, not as convienient as a centre stand but a lot cheaper.

If anybody is looking for a Bonneville centre stand, Squaredeals have got a clearance sale on their web site showing centre stands at £79. That is good value!
    Wouldn't be without mine.

what works for me when i put my t120 on it's centre stand is to put my weight on the stand and grab the frame that support the rear foot peg and pull :)

I bought some TEC bobbins for my Street Twin, but haven't got round to buying paddock stand as yet. Now I see there is a centre stand due soon I think I'll hang fire.

My new-to-me 2013 T100 has a centre stand, fitted by the previous owner. Haven't tried using it yet.

Definitely agree that they are a worthwhile addition to any bike, with the possible exception of the hideous bent-wire thing fitted to early BSA Bantams!

One of the reasons I bought the T-120 instead of the Street Twin was the availability of the center stand. Speaking of center stands, I have a 1970 BSA Victor that I would love to put a center stand on - that would look good. I don't ride the bike too much and being on a center stand would be easier on the tires. Any ideas?

Paddock stands or a bike jack.

Putting a centre stand on my Street Twin was probably the best accessory fitted so far, so much easier for cleaning, chain adjustment etc. and it's always available. Only a couple of negative issues, one I have been known to hit my gammy leg on the platform, have the scars to prove it but probably more my awkwardness. The second issue is that I bought the official Triumph stand £200 that appears to be identical to the TEC version issued at a later date £95. Anyway it's on now and does the job but for anyone thinking of fitting one worth checking out the TEC job.

Don't be adjusting your chain with the bike on the centre stand, it will result in incorrect free chain movement.
You need the weight of the bike on the swinging arm as in normal riding position with someone holding the bike or on the side stand.

MickEng. That's a very good point, and after nearly 50 years of riding I feel I should have known that but I didn't so cheers for pointing that out. Never too old to learn.

I usually check the chain, put the bike on the stand, adjust the estimated number of flats, drop it off the stand and check tension. After a while you get to know what the adjustment is for any given bike

Isn't that how centre stands are SUPPOSED to work? That's how the centre stands on the Meriden bikes worked. Just tried it on my T100 and it works on the Hinckley bikes too...
