    Afternoon all.

I am due to be picking up a new 2017 Speed Triple R in the coming weeks and thinking ahead to changes that I am planning on making; I don't intend to change too much aside from the high level Arrow cans (the removable baffle model, clearly!), tail tidy and some crash protection. That said, I have on previous bikes had a lever guard for the brake lever (the Gilles one is the one I typically use) but across the forum and in Internet searches I haven't found anyone that has done this on a >2016 model, I am guessing this is because of fitment issues with the OEM bar end mirrors?

So my question, has anyone done this and if so, could I see some pictures to see how it all looks - clearly it would be a semi unique setup owing to the mirror configuration so unsure whether its doable neatly or not.

    Thanks.

As there is no or very little demand for them on naked bikes i think you would have to get something made up :)

I'm not being very helpful I know (sorry)..........but why?
Do you intend doing a lot of close combat filtering? :grinning:

You have a point. I used to have them on my fully faired bikes for track. In honesty do I need them, probably not actually now I come to think about it but always good to know if options are available.

Mind you, I also had one on my previous bike (S1kR) and it looked pretty trick.

My Tiger Sport had the off road style handguards, they're only plastic but did stop a lever getting bent when I dropped the bike.
Thinking about getting some for the Speed if they'll fit with the mirrors....

You will probably have trouble finding someone that has fitted a brake lever guard on their Speed since this will only really make sense if you're in competitive racing.

If I were you however I would contact Gilles Tooling directly and ask them if you can have both the brake lever guard AND the mirror fitted to the bar end.

I understand the need to customize our machines to make them stand out from the crowd and to put our own personal touches to them, otherwise we might as well all drive, i dunno, a ford mondeo for example. But unless you are on a track with 30 other mongrels who want the exact same line as you, or your banging around the bush I don't understand the point of them. However if its just a safety option that the brake/clutch levers don't snap off in a relatively slow oooppps, it might be worth you looking at some folding levers. SD-R make a very nice set for most bikes and from my own experience are a real good price and quality, Evo-tec do some as well I think but are more expensive. Maybe change them to a "short" folding lever, they look reasonably trick and no probs with bar end mirrors etc either. Sorry just cant get my head around brake guards on a Speedy:eek:
