Not Triumph Specific Intercoms

A fair few people on here, me included, recently bought Maxtek Bluetooth headsets from Aldi for £39.99.

They are excellent but no longer available, however, they are a generic headset and sold under a variety of names.

These, on fleabay, are absolutely identical and are £54 for a pair, a real bargain.

I've been using the Aldi Maxtek branded one for a while now and it's brilliant. It pairs effortlessly with my Samsung S6 phone and my TomTom sat nav.

 

Yep! can't fault mine at all.

 

Have to say the Scala Q1 teamset is brilliant. I am a right tight git, but the scala are a great piece of equipment, car listen to my music, sat nav and the missus and phone calls, all working faultless and the phone app is usefull too. Know you wanted cheap, but have to say the Scala is good.

 

I agree but the Aldi does all the above, although there's no app. I can listen to music, use the phone, sat nav, talk to the pillion and other bikes.

However, I have no experience of the Scala or any other more expensive kit to make a proper comparison. I do know that the Aldi one claims a 500m bike to bike range while the Scala claims up to a mile. If I was riding with a group, particularly abroad then that would probably make a difference. Mine is almost exclusively to hear the sat nav so range is not an issue for me.

That said I know a couple of people who have expensive headsets who say the range is not as claimed unless you're in open country with line of site. In cities where you really need to keep in contact it's a lot less.

When I went touring we all used small personal walkie talkies plumbed into the helmets with a push to talk button mounted on the handlebars. A lot cheaper than bike specific comms at the time and with better range. One of the problems was that sometimes different manufacturers kit wouldn't play together at all let alone nicely.

 

Had the Scala Q1 now have had the Q2 set for over 5 yrs, wouldn't be without it, well worth it for the convenience

Only used it for satnav, but its very clear and pretty good for around £38

 

I've followed the link you mention. Where does it let you specify the type of mic? The unit seems just have the boom mic ....... or do you have to buy the stick on mic?

I see scrolling down, past the description and product specifics, (but before the large pictures of the product) theres the stick on mic / earphone kits which appear to be £8 - £10 a piece.

 

I'd definitely recommend my Sena stuff.

Decent range when riding with SWMBO on her bike, withstood baking hot sun and pissing down rain without issue and plays well with other brands, so you can set up a group intercom if you're out with buddies.

Well worth every penny.

 

Scala is good but unfortunatly after a couple of years the batteries start to go. You cannot replace them. we ride and about 2 hours in the sets keep dropping out into standby. I then have to reinitiate connection by pressing a button. Also because more people use bluetooth in cars you get interferance. Would we pay that much again, well yes because it probably saved my wifes life.

I have a Scala Teamset and have never used the pillion unit at all as my wife never wants to hear me swear and shout.

I've heard of batteries failing but mine is used very often and has been for 8 years.

The sad thing is that the boom is getting worn and the fitment for the unit has changed on later models.
