Explorer Fuel Question

I've recently returned from a 2 day trip in France and Belgium the 1st long trip I've done on it my query is getting off the Eurotunnel had fuel warning telling me I have only 19 miles left, filled up but only managed to get 16.6lts in brimming it, bike has a claimed 20ltr tank so did I still have 3.4lts of fuel remaining and was the 19 miles of fuel left just being precautionary?

My Speed triple has a 15lt tank, the fuel warning light comes on with 30 miles left on the trip computer.
I carried on until it was at 1 mile and filled up to the top by 14.5lt so there was still half a litre in there
I dont know how far 500ml would get me!

I would guess all these machines have to show less than there is to avoid the risk of them running dry, best to be prudent than optimistic!

Edit: just googled litres to a gallon and at an average of 50mpg with 500ml of fuel woud equal 5 miles, so yeah...cutting it close there

Yours seems very accurate if I had 3.4ltrs still in the tank which is pretty much 3/4's of a gallon @ 48 to the gallon should equal 36miles + 19 it said I had left I worried because got down lower than that in France sweating on a garage to fill up.
