Does anyone know which wire to connect the +ve on my heated grips to on my 2011 SIII? I thought I'd connect it to the headlamp +ve so I can't leave them on when I turn the ignition off but I don't know what colour wire I'm looking for.

    Ta,

Bry buy a relay from maplins or similar 20A one is a few £'ss.
In the rear of the bike is a plug with 2 black wires looped on it. this is the Alarm plug and one of the wires is for the fuel pump.
if you have a 12V tester even easier to find.
connect 12+ )(red) to the relay and also earth?ground(bike frame) split the looped wire and connect to the relay switch.
when you start your bike you will have a switched relay supply that will not blow the fuse of your headlights.

Do not connect to your headlights as the fuse and cable rating may not take it.
will post some pics in a bit for you....

OK nob Jockey... better then poof....

This is the photo of the Alarm connection. 1 is a permanent live the other is switched. You require the switched. A very simple 12V tester from your local parts shop will help you. Also why you are there buy a small relay & some cable and crimp lugs.

This is a photo of a relay. There are normally 4 pins on the bottom and also they are labelled for numpties and non technical people.
Pins 87 & 30 are the switched supply you want so heated grips in your case.. You put a fused feed from the battery to pin 30 and connect your heated grips to pin 87.
you put a earth on pin 85 or 86 and then you connect the switched live from the plug in photo above to the other empty pin.

    see 4 cables.....

Inline fuse holder.. you can buy these from your local car parts shop or Maplins etc etc.

Ok hope that helps and it will give you a switched supply for loads of items...
I run my Autocom, Satnav & camera feed from this 1 relay..

hope that helps a bit... if you lived closer i'd pop over and do it...

Had mine wired direct to the battery now for a year and not flatted the battery yet. I have a relay sitting on the shelf somewhere just not got round to fitting it.

Hope the little bar end allen screw comes out easier than it did on my bike (and the Mrs's Street) think the factory must have used a tube of locktite when the fitted them.

No problem with getting the bar end weights out, Rich. Just found out that the new ones screw in whereas the old ones clamp in to the bars.

OK John, bought this today (along with some spade connector thingies and a cheapy mutimeter - which I've sussed out how to check for power, I think). Can you tell me, should I be using pin 87 or 87a, or does it not matter?
