Just changed oil on my budget Chinese daily touring/commuter bike then this morning the filter decided to 'Just fall off'!! Now let's not mince words, I'm in the motor trade so I know when things are fitted right and always double check but this morning I thought my rear brakes gone shite (for reasons to follow)as I was desending a steep hill. Stopped at junction, set off through local village and broadsided through the bends after a mini roundabout. That wasn't unusual for me as I tend to go hard out of bends to 'feel the surroundings' and fully expected a little 'give' but this time the bike proper broke away. I looked down and noticed a very 'glossy gear lever and left boot' whoops, engine kill button hit and quick inspection showed an oil wet bike from fairing up to rear mudgard and a wet back tyre!
    IMG_9549.JPG IMG_9551.JPG IMG_9552.JPG
Closer inspection revealed no oil filter left!! IMG_9550.JPG So that was close, bike sounded ok at point of stopping and I was upright!

After getting a free recovery (as I was near one of my customers premises) I went back home to pick my van up and followed my tracks again to amaze myself that the filter fell off 2 1/2 miles earlier and lost nearly all its oil at that point!! IMG_9553.JPG
Spotted a filter?? IMG_9554.JPG That black mark goes for a whole 3/4 mile and it's my new oil, the engine just kept going!!
So the only thing I can think was that the filter was an aftermarket 'Fram' which may have had a looser thread but still same pitch!!

How much oil was in there, I've seen less of a slick when a Hgv shits its gearbox :D
    Glad you're ok BTW:)

Glad your ok mate. But don't forget to phone the local authorities to clean the road up before some other biker hits it and might not be so lucky.

Bought it if that was what you meant? (Picture above somewhere)
Sold my old one and delivered it on the way down to dartford so public transport was avoided this time even though you did some homework for me and thanks for that. I'd rather you changed your name back to Gloria if your blowing me kisses btw!:rolleyes:

Bloody nightmare lad! Glad to hear that you are OK. :D:D
(if you soak up the oil in the road with a rag you might be able to squeeze some back out of it for later use):rolleyes:
