I live in North Devon Jim (but Scottish) The two Harleys weren't painted by the car shop near me only the Triumph,they were done by someone else I know in Plymouth,Where do you live,maybe I can recommend a painter?
I live in Nottingham Jim, (Scottish too), and my connection to plymouth was playing rugby Plymouth University as a hidden wildcard... Omg they were brill weekend, Kitties bar every fri sat and sun, then I think the night club was the Dance Academy what a dump lol... Yeah if you can recommend then brill mate...
Paint Work:You seem to have fond memories of Plymouth:smile: I live in North Devon on the coast,great part of the world for biking and great roads.As for painting your bike,depends how complicated you want it,if its fairly simple as mine was then a descent car paint shop will probablly do,best thing is to take the bike along discuss what you want and see if they feel comfortable doing it,and explain that the parts to be painted will be removed from the bike (makes it much easier for them) dont know your mechanical expertise but what I did as my bike was brand new is go along to local bike shop and get them to remove the parts,the other reason I did it was both wheels had to be removed and they had the stands to keep the bike up whilst the wheels were off.It cost £100 to have it stripped and rebuilt.For fancier paint jobs then specialist custom paintshops are the way to go but can be expensive,the vrod was £1300! and was done by 8 Ball customs who coincidentally do Triumphs custom paintwork.But personally dont think the STR would suit elaborate paintwork,also when it comes to resale what you thought was the dogs doodas could make it very difficult move on.If you dont mind me saying since you have a white bike I would go for blue contrast,in the paint scheme.They allways work well together.
Lmao Jim, they were more blurry memories, loads of hang overs and some very scary birds... Lol Hmm yeah, was thinking the belly pan in the triumph all timer the aged Union Jack flag so it looks like its been scooped up, burnt n dragged... Then the blue and red stripe say half inch apart, off centred through the front guard, bikini fairing, tank and seat cowl, similar to the Steve McQueen scrambler design, but keeping the metallic Crystal white base colour.... A kind of modern meets retro whilst trying to avoid the Herby Goes Bananas look lol.... What do you think?? Not sure if you seem another thread I posted where I have attracted a number of stone chips in my tank and triumph have discontinued the paint (on a bike less than 6 months old!! Wtf??) chips easy hence now discontinued springs to mind.... I wonder??? I might have to start a thread to see if other crystal white bikes have had brittle paint, my pal had a phantom black speed and my other mate has the purple zest street and neither of them seem to have as much paint deterioration.... :frown:
Jim think the blue and red stripes would work really well,and fairly simple so should be a doodle for a competant sprayer,the other route you could go down is do the stripes in vinyl,then have them laquered on.If your tank is chipped might be an idea to have the white redone though you would have to have the whole bike done,not as bad as it sounds as is not really a large area to paint.Whatever you decide the painter will rub down all the old painwork and re laquer the whole thing.As for the belly pan I would be reluctant to have such a complicated paint scheme,for 2 reasons first off under there can get a bit of a battering from stones etc also would need to be airbrushed on not cheap probably At least £500,(I have had a few done over the years) I would be inclined to keep to the stripe theme but maybe slanted upwards towards the back of the bike.Be interested to to see what you decide so keep me posted .Jim
