    With Crispey on this one. Even if I had a guage, still would reset trip 2 and use it as mileage guestimator, always found that works well.

    I know the America will do 180 miles easy, and 200 if needed and work it out from there.

    Aye but if like me you don't always know how much is in the tank before setting off a fuel gauge gives a good idea!
    Quarter tank--50ish miles
    Half tank--100ish miles etc
    Head wind
    Riding style
    Traffic conditions
    Fat lass on the back etc etc

    But you'll have reset it last time! So you'll have a good idea if you've got 50 or 100 miles left.
    If you always fill the tank, you've always got a good idea of mileage remaining in the tank, because you know that a tankful will generally give you 180 miles plus, regardless of wind or a pillion.

    Gauge would be handy
    Less work for my brain

    I'm with Crispey and MrOrange too.
    I use the trip, always resetting it to zero once I've filled the tank. ...... (I agree that fuel gauge would be nice though)

    It's all well and good being a clever dick and using your trip meter but there comes a time in your life when you just forget to reset it. :rolleyes:

    Nice pics MrOrange. I've to Electric Brae a few years ago. A few of us from a scooter did a tour of Scotland and passed by Electric Brae.

    Never found fuel gauges to be that accurate on bikes. I always go by resetting my trip meter.
    Just next time set one of the trips to zero and try to see how many miles you can go before you have to refill the tank.
    Then just refill at 30 miles less in the future.

    Only one trip on my bike
    I always forget to re-set
    Putting gloves on checking pockets closed pull away
    Next thing halfway to wherever I'm going and bugger me i forgot again !!
    I'm struggling to think of one of my previous bikes not having a guage
    Gonna have to learn though cos I'll be keeping the speedmaster for quite a while yet
    Obviously a guage is more reliable than my brain
    Wor lass says it's a good job my balls are in a sack otherwise I'd forget them as well

    Just try to get into the habit of resetting the trip either as soon as you pull up a petrol pump and remove your gloves OR just after you've put the petrol cap back on after filled up.

    Once in the hobbit you won't be forgetting as often...... (hopefully)
