There have been scurrilous rumours put about by northern folk that God has a particular liking for Yorkshire. The truth is that God's absolute favourite is no doubt the Rose of the Shires as explained here.

I've been to Yorkshire and Lancashire, there both dumps! If God did take any extra time there, why create Rotherham or Rochdale??? :D:D:D

    I love it!
Please keep putting people off from visiting our dreadful Yorkshire Dales.
Keeps the roads and walks quieter for me.

Bloody hell John, I hope you and Mr O. are not planning to write any guide books for our beautiful British Isles. We'll be getting kicked out of the EU, never mind triggering article 50
Oops! didn't mean to go political, my apologies!

Quite obvious to me that you need some boat people and illegal immigrants sending down to you.

Rich, to use a well worn phrase - if I had to explain "Gods own County" then you wouldn't understand.

Cue strains of Jupiter by Gustav Holst .... I vow to thee my country ......

It has nothing to do with who rules us now or in the past or where the name of Yorkshire derives. We see and understand the blights that are Sheffield, Rotherham, Bradford, Cleckheckmondsedge or any other of the industrial hubs that you might mention. And still we persist.

Think of a car driver looking at you, riding your motorcycle and thinking - I'm warm and dry, my arse doesn't ache after 200 miles, I can eat snacks and listen to my radio for hours. When I'm at my destination I don't need to wash salt off my car or oil exposed chains and I have enough luggage to bring all the clothes I could ever need. He believes that we are either crazy or too poor to afford proper transport. But is he right? Could you explain what he is missing by looking at the facts?

And just to bring this back to reality - if us calling it "God's own County" pisses off the rest of the UK then this is also a big bonus ;)

Welcome in Murdo. We don't get any better, just worse by the second.
You need a sense of humour in here or is it just a big touch of insanity.
Hopefully nursery will be along shortly to explain it to us all. :)

That just goes to prove that Scotland is God's own country. Gorgeous sunshine here. 12 degrees all day.
If you lived in GOC then it would have been sunny there :p

Mum wasn't ever sure why, though family research shows some recent-ish ancestors from there, but her dad always called her Bugbrooke. Well, that's how she heard it anyway.

    I've been to Northampton.
    I've been to Bedford.
I was taught to say nothing if I couldn't say anything good about something/someone/somewhere.

Just to be clear, Bedford is in Bedfordshire, which is just south of God's favourite county. ;)
