Bike has been in the garage all winter (due to Wx and me breaking my hand), with a few sessions on the Optimate during that time.

So I taxed it at the weekend for a blast.

All was well, though I noticed that on occasion the starter motor would not spin when I podged the button, but it would start after a couple of prods however.

This morning I tried to go to work on the bike with the following result:
    - Again not always spinning the starter
    - After it did spin up and start the Rev Counter dropped to Zero, rose to idle, dropped to zero, rose to idle.......etc.
    - I stopped it and ALL the 'map' display line 'RAINROADSPORT' was flashing on off
    - I got it starter again and rode up the road but the Engine light was On.

I took another bike to work!
It's booked into the dealers this weekend to let them have a look at it (and do the fuel pump relay loom recall). The bike started Ok this evening but the Engine Light is still on......which is good really as it has definitely logged a fault.

    Anyone had anything similar?

Sounds like some odd ball glitch, not heard that one before...

I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if that makes any difference when you reconnect it. For future reference you can by a cheap OBD11 reader from ebay for about £10-£15 that will tell you what codes are triggered.
If a code has been triggered and no on-going fault is present the engine management light will go away after a few engine on off cycles, I think its around five but I can remember for sure..

I had an issue with the engine management light staying on, turned out to be back brake light switch sticking on, this was replaced and all seems ok now.

Dropped the bike off for the fuel pump harness recall yesterday. There were no problems starting it or any other symptoms on the ride there except the EML was on.

Apparently there were no codes associated with the EML and they diagnosed a loose battery terminal, which I figure could well have caused the intermittent problem. We'll see over the next couple of months.
