Sounds a bit like air could still be in the system, am sure some of the more technically gifted members on here can give advice on the best way to bleed the brake. Certainly worth double checking for air before stripping the master cylinder

I presume its all dry & leak free?
If you havent already it might need a flush through with fresh brake fluid & bleed it thoroughly. Getting all the air out of the braking system can be a right royal pain in the arse at times. Try using a big syringe with a tube on the bleed nipple, remove fluid cap & slowly force fluid in from the nipple to expel the air into the reservoir. I have had great success by bleeding brakes in the reverse way in the past.
If you still have a spongy brake after being 100% sure all the air is out of the system then its either a strip down & rebuild of the master cylinder or simply replace with a new or good used item.

If you are not sure just google "back bleeding" or "reverse bleeding" its not a big secret in the world of spongy brakes

Or if your bike is old, maybe a new brake pipe. Also if you can hold the lever down over night that is also suposed to help..

Sounds like moisture in the brake fluid, drain the whole thing and start over see if that helps!
