Chain cleaning brush how did I manage without one ?

Always use the wife's tooth brush.

 

Funny that. The internet connection here in Kincardineshire is poor...but I'm back tomorrow. Now, what's that got to do with chain brushes ?

Fit a Scottoiler or similar it cleans and lubricates the chain.

 

And the bastards who insist on riding 6" from your back wheel!

If I may just a word of caution about using brushes to clean your chain. As you all know modern chains are lubricated for life at the factory and the grease is held in place by rubber O-rings between the rollers and the plates.

If you use a bristle brush too 'enthusiastically' you risk damaging the rings and therefore allowing moisture into the rollers and mucking them up.

I use chopped up T-shirts as rags to clean the outsides of the chain, the insides being cleaned/lubricated by my Loobman chain oiler.

 

Biglads T shirts go a long way!
