Bought a Tomtom rider, and thinking of getting a Bluetooth headset so I can hear it and possible talk to another rider, but don't want to spend a fortune.

What's your experience, and any recommendations?

I've been using a Cardo Scalarider QZ for the last 8 months or so but now it has stopped working.
I didn't use it for about four weeks and it had run flat but now it won't charge.

I have been using a cardo scalarider G9 for circa three or four years, basically trouble free. Pairs well with my Garmin 660L stanav and has an FM radio bulit in. Also works really well with other cardo's on bike to bike communications. Not sure what the latest offering from Cardo is, but I will buy from them again when my G9 does pack in.

I have scala q3 blutooths to phone, garmin and tomtom fine. Good buttons and volume. Not actually used it bike to bike but it's good to pillion. Lots of bits in the box. They are pricey but if you spend time searching you can find them cheaper.

Got a pair of Scala g4 here for close to six years, they have been problem free. The fm radio isn't that good though.

Did you leave it switched on by mistake? just checked mine it's been sitting for about 3 months and it's still got power in it

No - it was definitely turned off and I've had no problem with it up until now. It will light up and connect to the phone when on the charger but it just won't charge whatever you do and goes dead the minute you disconnect the charger.

I had a Scala rider. It worked for a couple of years (occasional use) and then just ceased to function. It appeared to charge and link to sat nav via bluetooth but no sound. Bought a cheapo device and found it to be better than the Scala that was 5 times more expensive. Only use it for sat nav.

Looking at buying the Scala Q1 teamset, for talking to the missus (she gets lonely:(), hearing sat-nav instructions and maybe music, but not sure I will like that.
Heard good and bad things about the scala , but mostly good, better than the cheap one's which seem to drop there Bluetooth connection rather easily.
Looked long and hard, and have decided to go with the Q1 pair.

Seeing as I only need it for Tomtom sat nav, and maybe intercom if my son dips his hand in his pocket before our long weekend in France in July, I've decided to try the cheap option and ordered a Freecom Tcom-SC for £37 which now comes with two sets of headphones - hard and soft.

I can't recommend Sena highly enough. I have the SMH-10 and the newer 10S. Both have been fantastic and ridden in searing heat, freezing cold, torrential downpours all without issue. I even manage to have a running intercom with Mrs DV when she was riding and the range wasn't too shabby. Well worth every penny.

WesSmith, how did your cheap and cheerful intercom perform. ? I have a trip to do and not sure I want to spend a fortune.

Another vote for the Scala, I have had it in various forms for over 10 yrs now ( rider, Q1 & Q2 ) only ever had an issue once when someone left the charging socket open whilst riding in a deluge, that one smoked during charging :(. Still have the others last set I bought off evilbay 5 + yrs ago get charged when needed and are still going !
