Sickened reading that this shite is going on over there. I have always thought the UK to be much more of a polite society than here stateside. This type of bike theft is very much violent crime and Mr. Plod needs to take it seriously before someone goes tits up at the hands of these punks. Here just claiming, "I feared for my life" are the keys to the ignition of Mr. Plod's legal engine firing up. See your Doc, tell him you can not sleep or eat, your post traumatic stress is documented, then to the barrister to get a claim going against Mr. Plod.....that will make the news and then and only then will action take place. Trust me, it is the American way and coming to your shores soon (I apologize). People lawyering up to force action. Crying shame that your gun rights have been neutered there. Thugs are armed and you are not. Do you have Castle Law doctrine there? The right to defend oneself if in one's home even use of deadly force if your home is invaded? We do here and it is extended to our registered cars, trucks and motorcycles. If you do then that is your answer. If not push your politicians to make the playing field level. I like you guys and really feel for you dealing with this crap. I hate bullies and thieves.

I hear what your saying re claims and in theory it sounds a good idea, but as for guns it will never happen in the UK thank god! I can understand how all you guys carry them, but the problem is in the states everyone carrys them! and unfortunately I can’t see that ever changing, If I lived over there I would feel obliged to get one too. over here Big time criminals/gangsters might have guns, but not your average motorbike/house thief, I shudder to think what it would be like if it became legal for anyone to purchase a gun

^^^ If everyone carried a gun then I will be carrying multiple pants in my ruck sac. Obviously you know why:rolleyes: or I might even switch to diapers (more cost effective...I think;))

It's bad enough as it is trying to tackle knife crime in UK. I don't fancy imagining bringing a gun into that equation o_O

I suspect that the scumbags involved probably committed at least three crimes:-
    Attempted robbery.
Assault (physical contact not necessary - as previously stated - as assault can be verbal).
    Threatening behaviour.
There may be other crimes committed as well, but these seem the obvious ones to start with.

Where do you want me to start??
Perhaps not - my blood pressure and heart probably won't stand it - I'm on enough meds already (blood pressure and heart oddly enough!).

If the police, for whatever reason, won't do the job then what next? Why bother having laws that aren't enforced? Have we got to the point where society doesn't care if we're robbed or attacked?

I find it hard to see how anyone could defend the police if the description in this thread is accurate. I'm disgusted but not surprised. Arrogance coupled with gross incompetence and ineptitude is my experience and expectation, certainly of Police Scotland. It doesn't sound much different South of the border.

I'm very middle aged and other than possibly riding my bike a little to quickly at times, am a hard working law abiding citizen who pays tax to live in a fair and orderly society. I've brought my kids up to be decent, law abiding contributors to society also. I'm not a natural anti police person. I would very much like to support them but my experiences of the police in recent years in Scotland has been only negative. People may blame politicians, maybe rightly so but if people like me see the police as part of the problem rather than part of the solution it's a worrying state of affairs.

We are proud decent Brits. Our kindness is taken as our weaknesses. We will give as good as we get. But there is a line we won't cross and we won't stoop to their level. Because we are simply not made that way. We have conscience and unfortunately we are decent and considerate.

So I'm not sure if it is something to be proud about or sad about.

Story of our lifes. Stuck in a Rock and a Hard place :(

A length of bike inner tube filled with nuts, bolts and washers, and clamped either end is all part of a legitimate roadside breakdown kit along with the 18" breaker bar for the harder to crack nuts.

I'm too honest a person to enter politics!
I can go with DD as Chief Security Adviser though with a view of promotion to Chief Hangman once the laws get changed to make the punishment fit the crime.
